This piece features a historic Richmond bottle, Valentine’s Meat Juice, from the Valentine Museum’s own collection. This preparation was a concentrated beef extract and egg white tonic, first developed by Mann Valentine in 1870 to aid his ailing wife. It gained widespread popularity and notoriety, and was even administered to President James Garfield following his assassination attempt.
