Featured in this piece is a Philadelphia, PA whiskey that pre-dates Prohibition. It was produced by J. S. Perrine and Sons, a rebrand from M. & J. S. Perrine, in 1895. The Perrine family “rectified” whiskey, meaning they bought spirits from other distillers and made their own blends and labels. City directories from the late 1800s as well as newspaper advertisements list their address at 37 N Front Street, an address along the Delaware River water- front in Philadelphia. The Perrine’s were one of the most successful liquor dealers in Philadelphia up until Prohibition.
