This piece features an antique bottle of blackberry wine, bottled by Washington, D.C.’s World Wide Wine Co. The reference bottle comes from a private collection in Alexandria containing hundreds of pre-1920 bottles from the D.C. area. This Belle Haven wine was possibly named for the Belle Haven area of Northern Virginia. The label features a woman dressed in antebellum clothing standing before an antebellum-style house. The illustration looks strikingly similar to Belle Grove Plantation, the birthplace of President James Madison, though there is no known connection between this wine and Belle Grove.
