D. J. O’Connell, featured on the bottle's label, took over the Oronoco Rye business from the family of the late Edward Quinn, a fellow Irishman. This flagship brand drew its name from Quinn’s business' original location in Old Town Alexandria, just off Oronoco Street. In the early 1900’s, O’Connell opened a saloon on Pennsylvania Ave., known at the time as “Rum Row.” An enthusiastic marketer, Quinn proudly advertised Oronoco Rye in the 1905 inaugural program for Teddy Roosevelt.
